Hymns and Songs

In St. Michael's Primary, a cherished tradition weaves its way through the hearts of students and teachers alike: the singing of hymns. Far more than mere melodies, these sacred songs hold a profound spiritual significance, connecting us to our faith, our community, and the teachings of Christ. Rooted in Catholic social teachings, our hymns serve as a powerful medium through which we foster a deep understanding of our shared responsibilities to one another and to the world. As we explore the diverse tapestry of hymns, our goal is to empower each child to grasp the profound meanings within the lyrics, and in doing so, discover their unique purpose in the eyes of God.

Through hymns, we are invited to join our voices in praise, creating a symphony that resonates with the divine. As we gather in song, we form a spiritual community, bound by a shared reverence for God. This communal experience strengthens our faith and deepens our sense of belonging within the Church.

Embedded within the lyrics of our hymns lie the tenets of Catholic social teachings. Through the verses, we find echoes of justice, compassion, and solidarity. Songs such as "Let There Be Peace on Earth" remind us of our duty to be peacemakers, while "Let There be Love Shared Among Us" implores us to love one another as Christ loves us. By singing these hymns, we internalise these teachings, shaping us into compassionate individuals committed to building a more just and harmonious world.

Bind Us Together Lord

Bind us together, Lord,

bind us together with cords that cannot be broken.

Bind us together, Lord,

bind us together, Lord

bind us together with love.

There is only one God.

There is only one King.

There is only one Body.

That is why we sing:

Bind us together Lord, ….

Fit for glory of God,

Purchased by his precious Blood,

Born with the right to be free:

Jesus the victory has won

Bind us together Lord, …

We are the family of God,

We are his promise divine,

We are his chosen desire,

We are the glorious new wine.

Bind us together Lord, …..

Bind Us Together Lord

Colours of Day

Colours of day dawn into the mind,

The sun has come up, the night is behind,

Go down in the city, into the street,

And let’s give the message to the people we meet.

Chorus So light up the fire

and let the flame burn,

Open the door, let Jesus return,

Take seeds of His Spirit,

let the fruit grow,

Tell the people of Jesus, let His love show.

Go through the park, on into the town,

The sun still shines on, it never goes down,

The Light of the world is risen again,

The people of darkness are needing a friend.

Chorus So light up the fire...

Open your eyes, look into the skies,

The darkness has gone, the Son came to die,

The evening draws on, the sun disappears,

But Jesus is living, His Spirit is near.

Chorus So light up the fire...

God Has Chosen Me

God has chosen me,

God has chosen me to bring good news to the poor.

God has chosen me,

God has chosen me to bring new sight to those searching for light.

God has chosen me, chosen me:

And to tell the world that God's kingdom is near,

to remove oppression and break down fear,

yes, God's time is near, God's time is near, God's time is near.

God has chosen me,

God has chosen me to set alight a new fire.

God has chosen me,

God has chosen me to bring to birth a new kingdom on earth.

God has chosen me, chosen me:

And to tell the world that God's kingdom is near,

to remove oppression and break down fear,

yes, God's time is near, God's time is near, God's time is near.

God is calling me,

God is calling me in all whose cry is unheard.

God is calling me,

God is calling me to raise up the voice with no power or choice.

God is calling me, calling me:

And to tell the world that God's kingdom is near,

to remove oppression and break down fear,

yes, God's time is near, God's time is near, God's time is near.

Loved by my Father who knows me by name.

I’m loved by my Father who knows me by name.

St Michael's Hymn

Lead us onwards St Michael and show us,

The way to fight for what is true,

Stand up for all the things we believe in,

Give us strength and faith in all we do.

Chorus

O’ St Michael, great St Michael,

Teach us how to keep our spirits true,

O’ St Michael, great St Michael,

Hear the prayer we say to you.

Circle values we follow for our Saint,

Teaching us to enjoy and learn,

Showing care and concern to each other

And rewarding us the love we earn.

Chorus O’ St Michael, great St Michael...

Let us be filled with love from our father,

Keeping us safe the whole day through,

Leading us down the right path to heaven

And helping us to be a lot like you.

Chorus O’ St Michael, great St Michael...

You shall go out with joy

You shall go out with joy

And be led forth with peace

The mountains and the hills Will break forth before you

There'll be shouts of joy

And all the trees of the field

Will clap, will clap their hands

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands

The trees of the field will clap their hands

The trees of the field will clap their hands

While you go out with joy

You shall go out with joy

And be led forth with peace

The mountains and the hills Will break forth before you

There'll be shouts of joy

And all the trees of the field Will clap, will clap their hands

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands

The trees of the field will clap their hands

The trees of the field will clap their hands

While you go out with joy

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands

The trees of the field will clap their hands

The trees of the field will clap their hands

While you go out with joy

You Shall go out with Joy

Spirit Lead Me

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders,
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me.
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander,
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Saviour x3

I will call upon Your Name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine

Spirit Lead Me

This little light of mine

This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,

This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,

The Light that shines is the light of love,

Hides the darkness from above,

Shines on me and it shines on you,

Shows you what the power of love can do,

Shine my light both bright and clear,

Shine my light both far and near,

In every dark corner that I find,

gonna let my little light shine.

This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,

Monday, He gave me the gift of love;
Tuesday, peace came from above.
Wednesday told me to have more faith;
Thursday, gave me a little more grace.
Friday, told me to watch and pray
Saturday, told me just what to say,

Sunday, gave the power divine
Just to let my little light shine.

This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine.

Of God’s amazing plan.

Christ, Be the Light

Longing for light, we wait in darkness.
Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people,
light for the world to see.

Christ be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light! Shine in your church gathered today.

Longing for peace, our world is troubled.
Longing for hope, many despair.
Your word alone has power to save us.
Make us your living voice.

Christ be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness...

Longing for food, many are hungry.
Longing for water, many still thirst.
Make us your bread, broken for others,
shared until all are fed.

Christ be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness...

Longing for shelter, many are homeless.
Longing for warmth, many are cold.
Make us your building, sheltering others,
walls made of living stone.

Christ be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness...

Many the gifts, many the people,
many the hearts that yearn to belong.
Let us be servants to one another,
making your kingdom come.

Christ be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light! Shine in your church gathered today.

Christ, Be the Light
