PTFA

What is the Parent Teachers Friends Association (PTFA)?

At St. Michael's RCP Primary School and Nursery, we are fortunate to have a Parent Teacher Friends Association (PTFA), a group that includes parents, carers, staff, and other associated people such as grandparents. The PTFA plays a vital role in fostering stronger connections between home and school.

While the PTFA is best known for its fundraising efforts, it also serves an important social function. Our fundraising events offer fantastic opportunities for parents, staff, and pupils to come together and build a sense of community.

How is the PTFA Organised?

All parents, carers, and staff at St. Michael's are automatically members of the PTFA. We hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM) during the school year, where a committee is elected to manage the PTFA. The committee typically consists of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and other committee members.

These members may include ‘class reps’—parents who help communicate PTFA updates and information to other parents in their child’s class. The PTFA committee meets once a term and forms smaller working groups to organise events throughout the year.

How Does the PTFA Raise Money?

Our PTFA raises funds through a variety of events, which have included Summer and Christmas Fayres, discos and quiz nights. We are always open to new ideas, and parents are encouraged to suggest any fresh fundraising opportunities.

Donations are also welcomed outside of these events, and every contribution, no matter how small, helps to make a big difference.

How is the Money Spent?

The funds raised by the PTFA are used to provide 'extras' that are not covered by the school’s main budget—often fun and enriching activities or equipment that enhance the learning experience. This could include items such as playground and school equipment, computers, toys, books, and subsidies for school trips.

Requests for funding are made by the school, and the PTFA committee decides how to allocate the money to best benefit the pupils.

How Can I Get Involved?

There are many ways to get involved with the PTFA, regardless of how much time you can commit. Some roles, such as being part of the committee, may require more time but are also very rewarding. However, there are plenty of opportunities for parents to help on a less frequent basis—whether it's running a stall at the summer fair, baking for a cake sale, or donating prizes for raffles and competitions.

Even if you’re unable to volunteer, you can still support our PTFA by simply attending and enjoying the events we organise throughout the year.
